Your Child’s First Dental Visit — What to Expect
We recommend a child’s first dental appointment at 12 months (or when the first tooth appears) — in line with Canadian Dental Association guidelines. Here’s what the first visit looks like at Red Rose Dentistry:
- Welcome — 5-minute tour of the clinic so your child sees the chair, light, and tools before sitting in them
- Tell-Show-Do — We explain everything and demonstrate on a model first
- Quick exam — Dr. Khakani counts teeth, checks the bite, assesses jaw development (often with the child in the parent’s lap)
- Gentle cleaning — If the child is comfortable; we never force it
- Fluoride varnish — 30 seconds, completely painless
- Parent education — Brushing technique, diet, sippy cup use, teething
If your child isn’t ready for the cleaning, that’s okay. We never push. We schedule a second visit when they’re more comfortable — the goal is a lifetime of positive dental experiences.
